gold grains, till, alluvium, humus, hmc, gold pan, geochemistry, mineral exploration, photo-micrography, SEM, electron microprobe, batea
In addition to preparing heavy mineral concentrates for geochemical analysis, visible gold grains
as small
as 20 µm can be recovered from unconsolidated sediment. The principal methods employed
are the shaker table and the South
American gold pan (batea).Gold grain studies include description
of morphology and
texture using the binocular microscope as well as the scanning electron microscope
(SEM). The composition of polished grain
mounts can also be studied using the electron microprobe.
